The United States Geological Survey's National Aerial Photography Program gives you the opportunity to buy aerial photos of the US.
This site lets you browse the collection by clicking on maps and looking at previews of the images. They then expect you to buy the photos. Google Earth it ain't, but maybe it has that special aerial photo you've spent the last twenty years looking for.
